Four Nice Things

1. The day was sunny and clear.

2. I finished the first spread of the book I'm working on. It included a rabbit. Drawing rabbits doesn't come as naturally to me as drawing creatures like the one above, but the rabbit turned out surprisingly well. Ten times larger than life and very fat.

3. Lucille and I had planned a walk. I didn't get lost on the way to her house. We walked in Stern Grove. Afterwards I made her a Bloody Mary with gin and she loved it. She made oatmeal cookies with chocolate chips and I had them along with my drink.

4. When I got home there were 4 boxes of Peeps in different colors displayed on my desk.

Mmm, bloody mary with gin! I must go buy tomato juice forthwith. (No need to buy gin, thank heavens.)

I was thinking how beautiful all your creatures would look if it were possible to transfer them exactly as they are to glossy tiles and have a giant wall of them at a public place. love the purple on purple.

Any day with Bloody Marys, cookies and surprised peeps can't be all bad.
That's so cool that you're a book illustrator, by the way. How does one break in to something like that? I got an "artist market" book a few years ago but it seemed limited and dated- even then.

Meg: Tom buys ours at the farmers' market and it is outa this world. So go there!

Sally: That would be fun! You know, I have printed them out once or twice and they come out way too dense. They look good on the screen, but to use them any other way, I would have to alter the color somehow in each and every one. But maybe I could do this as some kind of "batch" process. I've been thinking about doing a book of them and just printing one per page with my favorite comment on the page opposite / w commenter's name.

Namo: You won't believe this, but I broke into book illustration through that very "artist market" book. (I know it must be the same one.) My friend and I sent a book mockup to Random House--the address was in that book. But it took years for anything to happen.

The best Bloody Maries are made with gin. My favorite for this purpose is Gordon's.

Your life sounds like so much fun.

Polycarp: I agree. You're the one who told me to try gin instead of vodka!

Thanks; I've been having a blast lately.

The rabbits remind me of the play I just saw: "Animals Out of Paper," where a couple of the characters fold a rabbit....

Linda said...

Stray: So you enjoyed the play? (another idea from Mary Ann's blog.)

The play was good. I liked one reviewer's description that it is alternately "funny and wrenching."

You know, if you just added big floppy ears to mister fella with a tooth, that'd be a good enough bunny for the likes of me.

Your menus are becoming my favorites. Yes, yes, yes. I get it. green stuff and protein and all those other nutrients we undoubtedly DO need, but what's the point of having options if you don't take them? Bloody maries for my lunch! Ymm.

Aw, Booda, I wish I had thought to make the rabbit like that. It woulda been perfect.

A Bloody Mary is healthy! And oatmeal cookies are full of oats.
