Seeing Spots

Add Image

I've been drawing tiny faces–hundreds of them–all day. I'm illustrating the exponential function. Yes, me, the one who failed algebra. And now I'm seeing spots before my eyes.

My phone rang at 5:15 a.m. yesterday. Mom suddenly was being admitted to a psychiatric hospital for 5 to 10 days. Ja-Lene had planned a picnic with her grandmother and my mom at a park, but things happened fast. She ended up helping Mom pack a suitcase. Instead of going to the park, she managed to pull off the picnic outside at the Terrace. And then the van drove up to pick Mom up, and the driver said that no suitcases were allowed!

Ja-Lene wouldn't take no for an answer, so she and her grandmother jumped in their car with Mom's suitcase and followed the van all the way to Jasper, TN. Then she and her grandmother stayed with Mom while she was admitted. Tears of gratitude for this person named Ja-Lene.

I hope you've been able to talk to your mother, and I hope she's feeling better. Who is the wonderful Ja-Lene?...Katy

Yes, who is Ja-Lene? Is her grandmother a friend of your Mom? There are still good people in the world.

Linda, I'm just so sorry. But I'm glad you and your mom have Ja-Lene.

Sorry to hear about this, Linda.
Why on earth wouldn't they accept suitcases? This isn't exactly airport security! Sheesh.
Ja-Lene must really care about your mom to follow the van up to Jasper with her suitcase, and to stay with her while she checked in.

Anony: Yes, we can talk to Mom during "telephone hours," and we do.

The wonderful Ja-Lene works for TN Home Helpers.

Barbara: Ja-Lene introduced her grandmother to Mom a while back, and they seemed to hit it off.

Waterfall: It was a miracle that Ja-Lene happened to be there when this happened.

Stray: Me too! Aggles will drive up to visit Mom this Saturday and Sunday during visiting hours. And on Monday, Ja-Lene plans to bring her grandmother back out to the hospital with her during visiting hours.

Namo: I don't know why the driver said that. I immediately called the hospital, and the Sue, the nurse who answered, said "Of course your mom will need a suitcase!" Ja-Lene is one-in-a-million.
