Weekend

Friday: Found in the sand

Saturday: ...The fundamental things apply as time goes by.

For me, some of the fundamental things that apply are fun, food,
and friends like the one singing the song.

Sunday: Is this not the silliest landscape you've ever seen?

And Then He Asked Me

(Jamie, that is. Email-of-the-Week Jamie.)

And then he asked me if I would send him a photo of my sea glass table.

Jamie babysat for our cat Mabel the first year we moved here. At that time there were only 57 pieces of sea glass on the coffee table. At that time there was still room to set down your glass of wine.

Image / Sunset Magazine

Hi Linda,

I know you like trailers.

... do you ever look at Sunset magazine? It's sort of run of the mill looking in terms of design, but I think for a regional it's edited really well. The food always looks so bright and delicious, for one thing. But they also do some interesting house-stuff. I feel like I always get at least one good idea to get excited about when I look at Sunset. I was at horrible stinkin' Barnes & Noble today and sprawled out with their August issue. Look what I found! (This is from a different website; the mag's site doesn't have this story up for some reason.) But it's a small feature in Sunset and worth a look.

Trailers for Sale

Remember Jim Rockford of the Rockford Files? He lived in a trailer. This one's in Daly City at the foot of San Bruno Mountain.

Me and JoooooDi

That's how Judy Sierra spells her name sometimes.

It was just what I needed, meeting her this afternoon at Book Passage. This woman has a brain like I've never encountered: devilishly creative and funny. And a big heart too.

But aside from all that serious stuff, here's the fluff. It was fun. I felt like I was in the presence of a celebrity. Everyone at the store knew her, and her lunch was on the house! That meant I didn't have to buy it.

They didn't offer to buy my lunch, but that's OK. I had scarfed down two somosas from the parking attendant at the Building Dept. before I headed over the bridge.

After cafĂ© time, we made a beeline for the kids' book section where we worshipped and criticized (mostly me – not nice!) mercilessly.

This Week's Treasures

I just found out that my Christmas book (written by Janet Schulman) has been issued as a board book. I got an advance copy today. It will be released on September 13th. The board book is definitely my favorite format. It's chunky and fat. You can throw it at your little sister, serve pizza on it, use it as a shield–-and at the end of the day you can still read it.

Janet told me that board books are actually very good for teething babies. And that Random House uses nothing but the best non-toxic ink.

A Visit to Borders

Can you believe what I spotted in Borders today? An incredibly beautiful book by a woman who lives on the coast of Florida.

Care Package

She did it. She actually went through her stash and found me a "K!" It came in the mail today along with some Dutch tea and biscotti. Barbara made the biscotti. (Almonds and fennel.) After I drank the tea, things seemed much better. In fact, things seemed so much better that I saved the tea bag and made a few more cups. Maybe I can dig it out of the compost tomorrow and get one more cup out of it.
