Friday Night Before Netflix

The Eagle's Nest has been demolished and the area replanted. It's nice that the bridge is visible.
Gina, this is where you and the Doc got married (the Coastal Trail where Land's End meets Sea Cliff).

Writing Group

There were eight of us at TIAPOS. Above are Olivia (in fur coat), Jane, Eric, Doug, and Will.
Here's a special treat. This is the poem Will brought, and he read it in Nixon's voice:

NIXON IN HEAVEN

I can still smell the lilies at the funeral––lush, sweet,
abundant, the scent swirling in among the pops
of the twenty-one gun salute, all those fine
young marines in white gloves––and the eulogies to me,
a statesman. That’s all I ever really wanted.

Now I’m pretty much an unknown--surprised, really,
to be here at all, but it’s not as if they’ve put me in charge
of anything, though I did submit one request to oversee
surveillance. I’m in a little shack at The Outskirts––
that’s what they call it, it’s a big, lonely district––

and I’ve got a piano. I’m learning Hail to the Chief,
some variations I’m working up myself.
Liberace comes by to help me with my technique.
He wears tails that light up like the stars and bars
and tells me soon I’ll be ready for the dancing waters.

Pat stops by too--part of her therapy, I gather.
She swears a blue streak, calls me a son of a bitch
and a miserable cocksucker, then grins and pinches my cheek.
Then she slams the door so hard the roof wobbles
and floats off with the most endearing spring in her step.

Finally. I Can Watercolor.

Remember David Luttrell? He refuses to join Facebook, but he's always emailing his friends the best stuff. He recently told me about this watercolor app called Waterlogue, which I downloaded in six seconds. Don't ask me why I waited so long.

This is my first doodle––but can you see the possibilities?

I Won a Sticker!

My book won an Ezra Jack Keats honor award this morning. When I told Tom the award was for writing, he said, "You'd better get to work on your illustration."

One reason this award makes me feel so good is because it reminds me of the magical afternoon Gina and I spent with Ezra Jack Keats at the Contemporary Jewish Museum.

What did Tom and I do to celebrate? Something very unusual. We took a walk.

5:45 p.m.  Coastal Trail
When we got back from our walk, this was hanging on our door. The PAC had paid a visit!
A celebratory gift from Aggles came in the mail.

Nice Work

Light House Present
Anne Herbst is a painter. She's also a friend of mine.

I have some rewarding work at the moment, and one of my projects is putting together a brand new website for Anne. I'm having fits looking at her work on the CD's she dropped off on my front porch yesterday. The painting above is one I'd never seen before. Opening each new file is a surprise and delight.

p.s. I've recently discovered an amazing way to build websites: Squarespace. This company has brought joy to my life and changed the whole way I look at web work. At night instead of reading novels I've been watching Squarespace tutorials and having good dreams.

Spooky

Isn't this spooky? It's actually a photo from yesterday.   5:28 p.m.

And as for today …  it had to have been the coldest day of the year out there.    5:34 p.m.
