I've been working on my talk, titled 101 DO-OVERS. I'm going to focus on one single solitary page in my new book––the nose page. It will be about working with my publisher, and how many rounds we went before we got the nose just right. If you think you've ever had to do something over and over, think again. You ain't seen nothing yet.

We drove up to Healdsburg to tour the Sunset Breezehouse. I took tons of pictures, but my photo skills were so bad today that I pulled this photo from Michelle Kaufmann's blog. The Breezehouse is one of the inspired modular homes she's designed.

I love it when things like this happen: This evening we were walking on a path above the Coastal Trail, trying to keep out of the wind. It was only 30 or 40 feet from the path where we usually walk--but totally new to us.

As we walked we discovered several sets of winding steps we'd never even known about. This is one stairway (photo), and it wound around and took us to a path that led to our usual trail.

It's so much fun to discover new paths and stairs so close to where we live. It reminds me of those dreams you have about discovering a new room in the house you've been living in for twenty years--mysterious and wonderful.

I've been invited to the Columbus Children's Book Festival on May 4 along with Jerry Pinckney, R.L. Stine, Jane O'Conner, Shana Corey, Jonah Winter, and David Catrow. And the day before the festival I get to visit two schools and stir up some mischief!
